What is the AMA?
The Academy of Model Aeronautics Inc. is the national organization on
whose objective is to promote and foster educational and scientific
advancement in model aeronautics. Other purposes are to encourage
leadership, group support, and development needs related to model
aeronautics. To guide national activities that will best serve
model aviation as a whole. To guide and assist in the acquisition
of flying sites. To establish and maintain official
regulations. To direct and conduct contests. To license
model aircraft and flyers. To provide liability insurance for
flyers and chartered flying sites. There are over 170,000 members
nationwide involved in the sport of model aviation. The annual
dues to the AMA also include "Model Aviation", a very
informative monthly magazine.
