Meeting Notes The club meeting on June 19th the plans for the work to be done at the field, including the asphalt runway and finishing the construction of the covered pit area was presented. There were no objections voiced against proceeding with these plans. Runway Note The asphalt runway is completed. At this writing there is still some work to be done on the far side to level the ground with the asphalt and to add some fill dirt to both ends of the Bermuda runway. Dues Increase In order to assure the club has adequate funds to pay off the asphalt runway and to complete other construction projects, the annual dues for New Members has been increased to $200, with an additional first year fee of $50. While this increase for new members will help, more money will still be needed to complete those projects and maintain the site in top condition. A temporary assessment for existing members over a two year period will hopefully put the club in a position to avoid a permanent dues increase for current members. Effective January 1, 2005, renewing members will be assessed an additional $25 for the year 2005 and 2006. Excluded from this assessment will be those members who have joined at the $200 rate, and those members who have paid their dues for six years in advance. The annual dues for those members who have paid dues for six years in advance are locked at $175. In the near future it may be necessary to put a cap on accepting new members. Additionally, members who have not paid their renewal dues within 30 days of the renewal date will be dropped and subsequent re-joining will be treated as a new member at the $200 rate plus the $50 first year fee. GMA Hosting a big 2-day 3D Event August 21, 22 GMA members Jay Richardson and Chris Hinson have arranged for a BIG 2-day event to help raise money for the club. A big name in 3D and Big Airplanes is Blaine Austin, who will be Directing this event. We have tentatively schedule Gordon Dickens and 2 or 3 of his Jet Set friends to put on a demo both days. Mike Kinsey is doing his great BBQ again Saturday evening. Jay will need helpers for parking, registration, impound, etc. If you plan to participate in this event, either as a pilot or helper, or if you plan to come out and spectate, please call Jay at 678 637-9968 and let him know. Pilot Flight Stations With the asphalt runway now in place, consideration needs to be given to where the pilot flight stations need to be positioned. The board is asking for member opinions to help in making their decision. The pilot flight stations may be positioned about 35 feet back from the asphalt runway or along the near edge of the Bermuda runway. If you'd like to express your opinion, please drop a note to Stan Erwin at 5938 Nachoochee Trail, Flowery Branch, GA 30542 Safety Fence The safety fence will be moved about 25 feet further away from the shelter. For safety of everyone and their equipment, all parked aircraft and equipment should be kept on the shelter side of the fence. To help avoid killing the grass with engine exhaust, we will be installing two concrete engine run-up stations near the safety fence. Lost Aircraft Across The River Property across the river appears to be leased by some hunters and some GMA members have gone onto the property searching for lost aircraft. The folks leasing that property do not like for us to come onto the property without approval. They have asked that if we need access, we first contact the Property Manager who said he would be glad to either grant permission or escort us. The Board Members have access to this manager, so should you find it necessary to access that property, please call one of the GMA board members so we can request permission. GMA 50/50 Drawing Initially we established this drawing with the intent of using the Georgia Lottery Mega Millions Mega Ball to determine the winner. Since the mega ball ranges from 1 to 59, and it appears we will exceed 59 participants, once the number of participants reaches 59, we will use the next drawn mega ball to determine the winner, and start a new session. Combat Event November 27 Since our monthly (or bi-monthly) pylon events have sort of fallen by the way side, Mr. Combat, Lou Melancon will conduct a Combat event on Saturday, November 27. Lou is also establishing a low-key, inexpensive way for beginners to get started in combat. Contact Lou for further details. Warbird Fly-in & Swap Meet Don't forget the September 11 GMA War Bird Fly-in and Swap Meet. Dave Hasler is directing this event and will be needing some help. Please contact Dave at 770 346-9926 to volunteer.
