Spektrum Radios
We are beginning to see some of these new type radios, the ones where you don't need a frequency control card.  These radios operate on a much higher frequency than anything we are accustomed to and seek out an unused frequency and lock onto that frequency.  For more details, check out information on the AMA site or at...

Scout Training

There is a lot to be said about teaching the young to fly R/C. Joe Romeo, on the far right with the transmitter in his hand, invited a local scout troop to the GMA field and let each of the young scouts fly his trainer plane. It turned out just marvelous and was a perfect day for flying. Each of the scouts kneeling down had his turn on the buddy box, some doing better than others. But each got a good feel for what it was like. Thanks to John a very special guy, for taking interest and the time to requite the youth in our great sport/hobby of flying R/C airplanes. We need more of this.

First Solo
Congratulations to 10 year old Tommy Roberts on his first solo on December 31st.

Drink Machine
It appears some local slimebuckets have taken a liking to the easy pickings of cleaning out our drink machine.  So far they have vandalized the machine three times.  We are in the process of installing a siren alarm system and also considering other methods of catching these crooks.  When the alarm is completed, there will be some opening procedures we will need to implement in order to disarm the alarm.  As soon as completed you will be informed of those steps by e-mail.

In the meantime, drinks will continue to be available, kept in the refrigerator.  Mike Hopkins and Carroll Cannon have agreed to maintain a money bucket for payment of drinks.

Repeat Some Of The New Rules
All transmitters must have their channel number conspicuously displayed.  All good things take time.  The impound rack was expected to be in place on February 1st but has been pushed back, hoping to have it in place around the 1st of March.  For a refresher on the new rules, see http://www.gmarc.com/News/2006January

Power Line Construction
The clearing along the fence line along Old Federal Road is being done by the power company (Sawnee?) in preparation for some bigger power transmission lines.  It appears these new lines will replace the existing lines now that run along Old Federal.

GMA Board Changes
Treasurer Dick Kohl has decided to take early retirement and is working with Patrick Manville to assume the treasurer duties in the near future.

So far today, I've done alright.
I haven't gossiped,
I haven't lost my temper,
I haven't been greedy, grumpy,
nasty, selfish, over indulgent.

I AM THANKFUL FOR THAT!

But, in a few minutes, God, I'm
going to get out of bed.  And from
then on, I'm probably going to
need a little help...

Lithium Battery Warning
There was an article in a recent Model Aviation magazine with some pretty detailed warnings about the use of Lithium Batteries.  You are urged to dig that article out and review it.  Some basics of the article warn that exposing Lithium to Oxygen can cause either a fire or an explosion.  It also warns that charging Lithium batteries should be done in a fireproof container and that damaged batteries should be treated as potentially explosive.

Field Grass Plan
We have an agreement with our hay man, the guy that cuts and harvests the stuff off the entire field, that he will begin this Spring a plan to eliminate that tall johnson grass.  From our understanding, this will probably begin after he harvests the current crop, which is expected to happen in May.  After the johnson grass start to grown again, he will then apply a weed killer and then start a new bermuda field.

Pattern Contest In April
Mike Hester
is hoping to make this one big money maker for the GMA.  The field will be reserved starting at Noon Friday before the event for pattern practice and for out of towners to become familiar with the field.  The field will be available for open flying after the pattern event is completed Saturday and Sunday.  There will be four rounds flown Saturday with completion expected around 4:00 p.m.  Two rounds will be flown Sunday, expecting completion around 1:00 p.m.

Spell Checking
Why does my spell checker want to change Neubert to Neuter?
