Our Interesting Hobby

One of the interesting things about our hobby is the trends taking us in different directions.  Giant scale seems to have topped out but on the other side of the penny electric models are becoming more common in the larger size right down to the tiny, micro size equipment.  At this point in time we are covered up with ARF’s, gas and electric.  Our hobby is becoming more diversified every day with more than enough categories of interest to satisfy all. I noted one company who has now come out with scale R/C home-built ARF’s.  The benefit to R/C modelers being they now have access to a distinct line of high quality ARF models that other companies would not touch, fear of limited volume.  Their mission is to enhance the homebuilt experience with 1/5-scale airplanes like the RV-6, Glasair IIS and the Zodiac XL.  Kits include US machine threaded and name brand hardware with plenty of extra’s.  That’s great; I hate hunting down a metric bolt. This company also will put your current flying airplane on a flight simulator as well.  Their web-site is http://www.RCHomebuilts.com   Take a peek for yourself.

Here’s a tip you might consider.  Every once in a while check the down line in your glow fuel jug.  The silicon line begins to deteriorate when left immersed in the fuel for long periods of time, especially if you are using a high nitro mixture.  Replacing the line at the field may be a unexpected problem you.  Check it out.

Some Work Across The Road From The Field

The owners have contracted for someone to cut hay off that field.  It may be finalized by the time you read this.

New Address For The GMA

In case you have used, or have need to use in the future, the club's mailing address, you may be aware that from the beginning, we were using the address of 8395 Old Federal Road, Ball Ground, GA.  We have learned this is incorrect, and the proper mailing address is 8250 Old Federal Road, Ball Ground, GA.

Pattern Contest
The pattern contest held on April 28, 29 was a big success.  There were 40 contestants with about 7 GMA members.  The weather was great the entire weekend and the club realized over $1000 from the entry fee and concessions.  Thanks to Mike Hester for a job well done and for your contribution to the club.

GMA Live Camera System
Some of you are aware of the 3 cameras on site which provide live video which you can view from your computer at home.  We're still trying to work out a few glitches and when those are resolved we will provide information to all members on how to access the video from home.  And for those of you that do have the access information, you might want to hold off on any further access attempts until that time.  Dan Barker is working with the tech folks and hopefully will have the system operating at full potential in a few days.
