Hello to all GMA Members,
"Warbirds Over Atlanta 2007" was
a tremendous success!!! We had 44 Pilots register from five
different states and 76 airplanes involved in this years event.
The weather was great, the field looked awesome and our membership
rose to the occasion to make this a winner. Financially, the
event MORE than paid for itself which is always our goal on these
types of venues.
Highlights:
Having Mac Hodges and his crew with the
B-29 is always a treat for our club and the large gallery of spectators
that found their way to this event too. Dino DiGorgio
and PJ Ashe were a great team also as they represented Team
JR/Horizon and the World Miniature Warbird Association and did some
great Warbird demo flying.
Our very own Larry and Buzz Killingsworth
absolutely thrilled the crowd and represented GMA well with their 1/3
Scale Balsa USA Stearmans, performing outstanding formation flying and
aerobatics. Pedro Sanchez and Jay Richardson were added
to the demo line on Sunday with their 1/5 scale TopFlite Corsairs and
did some an awesome job in coordinated high speed flight.
WWI aircraft were well represented this
year which was a great treat. GMA members Mike Delaune and
Patrick Manville were honored with awards for their scale KIT build
planes as were Larry and Buzz Killingsworth for their 1/3 Scale
Stearmans too.
It was good to see Patrick McLaughlin
again out there flying his Ziroli P-40, fresh out of a long stay in
the hospital due to a major car accident.
I could go on BUT...
As one of our out of state guests said, "This
club has the greatest resource of field, facilities and members
that I have ever seen." He was right!
Lots of folks helped but I want to single
out a few and say a very special thanks...
-Patrick Manville...perfectly coordinating
registration and awards.
-Chester Kramarski...proving once again
that impounds ARE the right way to run a great event!
-AJ Rivers and David Roberts...flawless
and incident free flight line safety.
-Linda Carnes...for the best burgers in
town and all your sweat on hot days over the grill.
-Mike Hopkins...for the thankless BUT
necessary job of trash detail and keeping us on our GMA toes.
-Stan Erwin...best dadgum artist this
side of 369, INCREDIBLE T-shirt design and raffle ticket man!
-Pedro Sanchez...Mr. Soda and iceman, you
can be my wingman anytime!
-Earl Partridge...for getting the event
on the Web and the news in front of the club.
-John Mueller, Jerold Cooper, John
Singer, Phillip Patrick for helping too.
As you can see, it takes a lot of people
to make it happen!
We do have the greatest Club there is!
Gratefully,
Rex Briant
